On Friday August 14th, 2009, members of the Skegness and District Burma Star Association gathered at St Clement's College, Burgh Road, Skegness to commemorate the 64th anniversary of V.J. Day, August 15th, which marks the end of the Second World War. The service was led by the Reverend Ian Banks, Pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, East Lincolnshire, who has been Padre to the Burma Star Association for seven years.

The members and friends were joined on this occasion by the Town Mayor of Skegness, Councillor Mrs Pat Phillips, the Skegness Town Clerk, Mr Tony Cumberworth and representatives from other local Ex Services organisations. Among other invited guests were Mrs Tricia Preston, Chair of Governors of St Clement's College, who read from the Gospel of Luke at the service, Mr Steve Kitchen, Midlands Area President of the BSA, Mr Ron Allen, Midlands Area Chairman, Mr Dan Barlow, Area Secretary of the BSA.

Former Town Clerk, Mr Alan Crawshaw also took part in the service. Alan and his wife Viviane have been loyal supporters of the BSA in Skegness for many years and sadly they are leaving the area shortly as they move to County Durham to be near family.

The Skegness Silver Band provided the music as they have done for a number of years.

At the end of the service wreaths were laid at the 'Cross of Sacrifice' on behalf of the Burma Star Association, the Burma Star Widows and other Ex Service organisations.
