Book of Remembrance

Remembrance Table

From the early days Christians have set apart particular areas or buildings and dedicated them to the glory of God and for the use of God’s people. It is a practice which is rooted in the Bible. The Temple in Jerusalem offers us the clearest example of a place specially built for worship.

This doesn’t mean that God’s presence is confined to a particular building nor should we presume that the provision of a sanctuary guarantees God’s blessing and protection, that comes through faithful and obedient living. It follows then that all that we provide inside the building, or outside for that matter, is also special and so we are providing a place within each of our meeting venues where we can specifically remember departed loved ones.

Table of Remembrance

On Sunday, August 2, 2009, at our meeting in Skegness in the County Hotel we set out a table as a memorial area. The table included a number of candles which were lit at various times during the meeting in memory of departed loved ones. Ailsa Sewards had brought along pictures of her son Simon who died six years ago on July 29. She also brought along his crash helmet as he was a keen motorcyclist and a member of the Tamworth Motorcycle Club. After the meeting members of her family and others from our congregation joined Ailsa at the Skegness Natureland Seal Sanctuary to dedicate a seat in memory of Simon. [More pictures]
