Lent & Easter 2010

On Shrove Tuesday the Bible Society in Skegness organised a Pancake Lunch in support of the Haiti Appeal and Bible Society Funds. The event took place at the Mustard Seed Christain Cafe which is part of St Paul's Baptist Church in Skegness and was supported by the Skegness Fellowship of Churches. Our Pastor, Ian arrived just in time to have his photograph taken by local freelance photographer and so made it into the local newspapers the next week. Fortunately or not depending on your point of view, the picture that appeared was the one where you can see Ian's face!

On the first Sunday in Lent those attending our Sunday meeting were given a stone to represent Jesus' temptation in the desert. They were asked to bring the stone back on Easter Day and if possible to have painted it with an message or image for Easter.

On Maundy Thursday sixteen of our fellowship came together at the home of Sandra and Pete Newsome to share a Passover Supper and re-enact the events of the first Lord's Supper. Sandra prepared a supper of roast lamb and unleaven bread. During the meal our Pastor read passages from scripture and played various pieces of music to tell the story of how Jesus transformed the Passover meal into the remembrance of his own passion. Then those present celebrated the Lord's Supper as Ian broke the bread and distributed the wine.

Good Friday

For the first time in Skegness we took part in the Good Friday March of Witness organised by the Skegness Fellowship of Christian Churches. Starting from outside St Matthews church we paraded through the town to the Hildred's Shopping Centre where we held an Open-Air Service.

We began our Easter celebrations with a Sunrise Service on the beach at the Sea View Pullover at 6.15 a.m on Easter Day. Twelve of the congregation met to hear the Easter Day story of how Mary Magdelene went at sunrise to anoint Jesus' body with oils and spices only to find the tomb was empty and Christ had risen. Those who gathered also sang their praise to the Risen Christ with traditional Easter hymns and shared in a short service of the Lord's Supper as they watched the sun rise over the horizon. It was a beautiful start to a beautiful day.

Family Celebration

At 10.30 a.m. we met again at the County Hotel for a family celebration for Easter Day at which we shared the Lord's Supper. We invited everyone to place daffodils on the Good Friday cross to bring it 'alive' for the Easter meeting.

After the meeting the cross, full of flowers, was transported to the home of one of our members so that it could be put on display in their front garden as a witness to neighbours and passers-by.
