Advent and Christmas 2009
Advent table Skegness
We began our Advent celebrations in Skegness on November 29 with an Advent meditation and the lighting of the 1st candle in our Advent Candle Ring. The County Hotel had already put up their Christmas decorations and this helped to heighten the expectation. In the evening we held an Advent Carol service in Sibsey.
On the second Sunday of Advent our meeting in Skegness included a sharing of the Lord's Supper for Advent and we continued the Advent theme in the evening in Sibsey.
Mary and Joseph (Amelia and William) and the donkey
On the Third Sunday of Advent in Skegness our meeting included an Interactive Nativity as part of our All Age Christmas Praise. Amelia and William took the roles of Mary and Joseph. Our faithful donkey came out of semi-retirement for the occasion although one of his ears fell off (again) just before the meeting. But thanks to super-glue he was able to take part without further mishaps.
Pete had a 'non-speaking' part as the Innkeeper although he did manage to say a few unscripted words while Sandra (the Innkeepers wife) tried to get a word in edgeways. Ruby and her friend Charlie (a working Guide Dog) also had 'non-speaking' parts as sheep. They stuck to the script and didn't say a word. Celia, Nathan and Fiona took part as shepherds while Abigail and Charlotte fluttered their eyelashes (and wings) as angels. Everyone else joined in as bystanders and made suitable verbal contributions when prompted by the narrator (Ian).

On December 20 we held a traditional Christingle Carol Service at our meeting in Skegness at which we prepared the 'crib' for the coming of Jesus using liturgy from the Iona Community, Cloth for the Cradle. Each person was invited to place a strip of cloth in the crib and then gather around the crib with the candles while we sang 'Away in a Manger'.

Our Christmas celebrations culminated with a meeting on Christmas Day in the County Hotel, Skegness when we were joined by a number of the hotel guests from different denominations and none.
